Hi! I'm Caitlin, the owner of Crafty Caitlin Studio. I’m a leopard obsessed crocheter who loves to tap, wear onesies, and drink wine (although I've never tried doing all of that at once). I'm also a huge fan of bad puns, corny/weird movies, and singing badly at the top of my lungs. My yarn journey started when I was about 6 or so and my grandma taught me how to crochet. The moment I held that yarn in my hands and made my first chain, I was hooked (get it?!). I felt like I had a superpower or I was a wizard (or another magically inclined being) turning a skein of yarn into a blanket or a sweater or even a stuffed animal. It was mind-blowing. Over the years, I would do the occasional "handmade Christmas" and make little crochet treasures for my family and friends. The weeks of hard work and some sleepless nights would all be worth it when they opened their gifts and their faces exploded with pure joy. And the compliments didn't hurt either (totally kidding). I loved seeing their amazement and incredulity as they held their new treasure, trying to figure out how it was made. It was the best feeling.
Although I loved to crochet and make different things and share my work with others, I never thought about selling my creations. "You should open an Etsy shop," everyone would say to me. "You would make a killing!" But I always brushed these comments off with a "yeah, maybe." I never thought I was good enough or able to do that. I would follow these amazing crocheters on Instagram and see their shops, but I could not picture myself among them. I was perfectly content with making my little gifts and dreaming about possibly maybe potentially thinking about opening my own shop. Then things got real- I got my first request from a friend of a friend. She saw the gift I had made my friend and wanted something just as special and unique for another friend of hers. I always only made things for myself or as special gifts for close family and friends. Making things for strangers was the big leagues, and I didn't know if I was good enough for that. Nevertheless, I took a chance, and we messaged back and forth to come up with an amazing idea. At the bottom of her last message, she wrote "let me know what I owe you." Those 7 little words changed the game. This was it. With my very first commission secured, my brain finally decided that I was just as good as those crocheters I followed on Instagram. That's when the dream for Crafty Caitlin Studio was born. Since then, I have used my powers only for good and helped others bring their special visions to life. Nothing beats a handmade gift because it was made with love specifically for someone and makes that person feel oh so special.
